The real problem for educators, whichever side of the classical/progressive side you fall on, is that a large segment of society no longer values it anymore. It's like the saying that you can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink. You can expose a child to knowledge (however you define it) but, if he doesn't value it, he won't care to learn and will probably just cause trouble for everyone else. We need to worry less about school reform and more about home reform because, as the Romans knew, society is built on family.

Thank you for giving me permission to look out over the trench and remember there are flowers, and the whole point of our fight (mostly against ourselves) is to help those flowers to grow and seed and grow again.
